In a claim that was raised against the talk show (“Al Hekaya Ma’ Amr Adib”), known as one of Egypt’s top watched TV talk shows; it was alleged that “Al Hekaya” talk show was the claimant’s own idea and that MBC has infringed his IP rights. The claimant was seeking to stop airing the show and sequestering its revenues.
Shahid Law Firm defended MBC arguing that the claimant’s idea is lacking creativity and originality that would qualify it to be innovative. The Court took Shahid’s defense and also found that most of talk shows ideas are similar to each other since they rely on daily events and raising it to discussion either through the authorities or people’s point of view and that these types of shows could be done in various forms and not bounded to a single form or idea.
